Punjab CM’s Drive to Eradicate VIP Treatment for Govt. Officials & Politicians

Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh is on a drive to eradicate the system of VIP treatments offered to the politicians and bureaucrats of the state. He has prohibited to inscribe names of any government officials or political leaders on the foundation stones or at any inaugural plaques. He has issued a notice to ban red beacon lights on the vehicles of the ministers and other govt. officials. Capt. Amrinder Singh even mentioned that his name will also not be exempted from this direction.

What Capt. Amarinder wants Punjab VIP free

The Chief Minister had taken this decision to abolish the tradition of providing VIP services to the elite and bureaucrats just because of the ranks they hold. He believes that this measure taken will enable the Punjab government to bridge the gap between the people and the government. He asserted that the foundation stones and inaugural plaques should have of the people of Punjab who have done exceptionally extraordinary things for the society. In fact, he prefers to stand in queue for the entry, check-in and boarding of flights instead of enjoying the VIP treatment.

Why is Punjab CM abolishing VIP treatment

Capt. Amarinder passed the order when the state cabinet minister Sadhu Singh Dhar allegedly threatened a school principal of suspending her for not writing his name in the first position of the inaugural stone. He was invited to inaugurate the new academic block of the school in Punjab.

Citing the incident, Capt. Amarinder has requested his ministers to stop the practice of enjoying VIP treatments with immediate effect as the Congress party in Punjab has again emerged as the ruling party because of love and support from the public. He mentioned that it is our duty to return them respect and humility they deserve.

About the red beacon light on vehicles

Capt. Amarinder Singh himself has given up the red beacon light on his vehicle after taking oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab and had banned it for other ministers of the party too. Only the vehicles of the Punjab Governor, the Chief Justice and Judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court, four vehicles of General Administration (Protocol Branch) can carry the red beacon light with flasher for visiting dignitaries with the authorisation from the Government of India or their respective states or Union Territories. Vehicles that are escorting the above mentioned red beacon bearer vehicles can put a blue light with the flasher.

The people of Punjab are now hoping to have just and fair state government who will work in their favour and for the betterment of the society.
