Tata Nexon has been undoubtedly the hottest launch of the year 2017 and now Tata Motors is readying the launch of a Hyundai i20 rival in the premium hatchback segment. The homegrown automaker has released a video featuring three cars which shed light at the company’s plans for the upcoming Auto Expo next month in Delhi. Tata Motors had covered the three cars with a black piece of cloth but if the previous rumours are to be believed then one of them is the premium hatchback which will go against the Hyundai i20 and a Tata SUV larger than the Nexon.
The New Tata Motors SUV Will Be Larger Than The Tata Nexon
Although Tata Motors have been popular for their SUVs across the range, they haven’t been able to sell a lot of premium SUVs in the past. Their only possible stint at the urban compact SUV segment is the Tata Nexon which has been doing well in the Indian car market so far. Now they might be trying to come up with a different strategy altogether for the large SUV and a premium hatchback to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20.
The new car will sit between under the Tata Hexa and compete with cars like the Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur which are larger in terms of size than the Tata Nexon. This will give Tata Motors a huge space to pitch the car in since the Indian customer is warming up to the compact SUVs and is willing to spend a little more.
Tata Motor’s Premium Hatchback Will Compete Against The Hyundai i20
If we talk about hatchbacks and sedans by Tata Motors, none of them have been able to leave a mark other than the Zest and the Tiago. Riding high on the success of the Tata Nexon, the company will be looking to make a debut in the premium hatchback space for the first time to rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20. The car has been teased in the video and in all possibility will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo in Delhi NCR next month.
Although Tata Motors have successfully won the hearts of the Indian customers by offering modern features in the Tata Nexon, whether or not the premium hatchback do the same against Hyundai i20 is only something we can answer in the future.
