UGC To Regulate Minimum Qualification For Professors & Teachers | Know What’s Changing

The UGC Regulations, 2018, have been notified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in order to regulate the minimum qualification for the teachers, assistant professors, and others. Sticking to these regulations, the UGC NET or the SLET or the SET shall still remain as the minimum eligibility for the appointment of the professors or a similar equal position.

As per the University Grants Commission (UGC), the National Eligibility Test (NET), as well as State Level Eligibility Test (SLET), is the minimum eligibility whereas, the ones who have a Ph.D. degree that has been awarded to the candidates with the UGC Regulations, have an exemption from the condition of appearing for the NET, SLET or the SET Exams to serve in educational institutions like Universities, colleges or similar institutions.

Recently, a notification has been released on the official UGC (University Grants Commission) website that is www.ugc.ac.in in context of the UGC Regulations, 2018. This official notification had been released on the website in the month of July 2018. As per the regulations, the UGC NET or the SLET, as well as the SET, tend to remain as the minimum eligibility for all the candidates who are looking to serve as teachers as well as the Assistant Professors or any of the equivalent positions. As per University Grants Commission, the students who have a Ph.D. degree already, need not necessarily fill the eligibility of appearing for the competitive exams to be appointed in the teaching faculty of various colleges and higher educational institutions like universities that have been laid down with respect to the conditions which have been laid down under the UGC Regulations.

UGC NET 2018 | Regulation of Minimum Qualification For Different Posts 

Whereas, the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations, 2018, state that the Ph.D. Degree is still considered to be as one of the mandatory qualifications to be appointed at the post of the Assistant Professor in the Universities and is applicable from July 1, 2021. Direct recruitment is also possible on the post of the Assistant Professors in various universities if the candidate happens to have a Ph.D. degree from any of the universities which are amongst the list of the top 500 as per the UGC Regulations.
