Another road mishap in Chandigarh that took the life of a 28- year old motorcyclist has come as a shocking event for the family of the deceased as well as for others. Last night proved to be the Black Friday for the kith and kin of Sumit Kumar who breathed his last on the roads of Chandigarh.
Son of an ASI from Chandigarh died after being hit by Scorpio
Sumit Kumar who is identified as the son of a Chandigarh ASI, Shiv Kumar posted on Sector 61 chowki, was hit and smashed by an over speeding Scorpio on the roads of Chandigarh. The road accident took place on Friday night at around 11 pm on the dividing road of sector 7 & 8, Chandigarh. While Sumit Kumar along with his wife Kusum was returning back home in Maloya after attending a family gathering at his in-law’s place near Mani Majra, an over speeding Scorpio, who had lost control, hit Sumit Kumar’s motorcycle and later rammed into an electricity pole on the roadside and the boundary wall of a house. The impact of the collision was so that Sumit Kumar succumbed to grievous injuries on the spot itself while his wife Kusum is seriously injured.
The residents of the sector 7 & 8 who had heard the noise of the bang came to rescue the couple and rushed them to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. The doctors there, declared Sumit as brought dead while his wife was given treatment.
Police arrested accused in Chandigarh’s road accident case
As per the police report, Sumit Kumar, s/o Chandigarh based ASI, Shiv Kumar was run over by a speeding car (Scorpio) that has been impounded and the driver of the car was also nabbed by the police. The person who was driving the Scorpio is identified as Anish Divan, a second-year student of MA at Panjab University. He hails from Village Pozarli, District Shimla and here in Chandigarh lives at the PU hostel. He has been booked under the section 279 for rash driving, section 337- causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others and section 304-A for causing death by negligence of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sector 3 police station of Chandigarh. The accused who was arrested has been given a bail in the case.
The family members of Sumit Kumar informed that the victim had got a new job at the HDFC Bank and it was his first day of the job on the night of which he passed away. He along with his wife were coming back home after attending the birthday party of the son of Kusum’s brother in Mani Majra. Sumit and Kusum were married for 10 months.
