Chandigarh Education Dept Forms Complaint Redressal Panel For School Students

The Chandigarh Administration has come up with a new idea for the school students of Chandigarh.

The child-friendly school committee has been formed by the education department. The child-friendly school committee formed by the education department will be acting as a redressal body. The committee will be able to address complaints and will also make the students and teachers aware about the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.

Child-Friendly School Committee

A capacity building workshop for school counsellors was organised on April 11, 2017, by the CCPCR (Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights). An advisory was issued to frame a committee based on the inputs they got from the workshop. The committee will ensure a better welfare mechanism in the schools of Chandigarh.

A committee has been made by the department which will have seven heads of the government schools. They are:

  • Monika Maini  – GMSSS-8 Chandigarh
  • Ravinder Kaur – GMHS- Dhanas 11
  • Rakesh Sood – GMSSS-28 Chandigarh
  • Ranjana Khosla- GMSSS-32 Chandigarh

The committee will also have a deputy education officer.

The Committee’s Objective

Harjinder Kaur, the CCPCR chairperson said that they will be holding a meeting on Tuesday where the action plan in the schools will be decided. The chairperson said that all the members of the committee have been called to address the student’s complaints, problems and to start the initiative in Chandigarh schools. They will also be focusing to create a child-friendly atmosphere in the schools.

The committee’s other objective is to make the teachers and the students of the school aware about the POCSO (Protection Of Children From The Sexual Offences Act). Harjinder Kaur said that they will be holding counselling sessions on a regular basis which will make the Chandigarh students and teachers aware of the difference between good and bad touch, mental health, ill effects of the substance abuse, cyber crimes and also life skill training.

Complaint Box In Chandigarh Schools

All the schools will be having a complaint box present on every floor, all the complaints in the complaint box will be further reported to the school complaint committee within 24 hours. After the complaints are reported, an investigation would be done and the final report would be submitted to the principal within three to four days.
