Chandigarh first Women SSP

Chandigarh gets its first women SSP. Nilambari Vijay has been appointed as 1st woman SSP of UT. The appointment committee of the cabinet has approved inter-cadre deputation of Nilambari Vijay. She has been 2008 batch Punjab cadre IPS officer. She is presently working as commandant-cum-deputy director (indoor) at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur.  She has also served as the SSP, Ropar and spent considerable time in Ludhiana. Her personality is like a Dabang officer.

The post of Senior Superintendent of Police has been lying vacant for eight months after Sukhchain Singh Gill, a 2003-batch IPS officer, was repatriated to Punjab in December last year. Nilambari Vijay was recommended by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore for the post to the Union Home Ministry in April.

Nilambari Vijay

At Present Eish Singhal -2010 AGMUT cadre IPS officer is officiating as the UT SSP.  Nilambari Vijay was among the three officers selected in the panel from the Punjab Government. The other two officers of the list were S Bhoopati- 2007 batch IPS officer and Naveen Singla -2009 batch officer. Bhoopati is serving as the SSP of Patiala and Singla is the SSP of Bathinda. However, Inderbir’s name was dropped from the panel on the orders of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh soon after his name figured in an extortion racket in Sangrur.

Nilambari Vijay Jagdale, the new SSP of the city belongs to Maharashtra. She also served in Ludhiana for 3 years as ADCP where she received a title of Dabang Lady officer from city people. She always performed her duty with honesty and did a lot of work for the welfare of cities wherever she had been posted. After Kiran Bedi who had been in Chandigarh for 43 days and changed the law and order of the city, now it is interesting to see what happens when Dabang officer like Nilambari will take charge as SSP of city beautiful. Nilambari Vijay is expected to join as SSP of Chandigarh from next week. She has been an inspiration for many. We hope women to boost their spirit and excel in future.
