February is that time of the year when Chandigarh witnesses one of the biggest event – Rose Festival. As the tradition continues from past many years, this time also the Rose Festival 2016 was held at Rose Garden in Sector 16 from 19th to 21st February. As always, Chandigarh rose festival for year 2016 saw a large number of people.

In year 2014 and 2015, around 3 lakh to 4 lakh people visited the Rose Festival in 3 day event, but this time for Rose Festival 2016, the number was people visiting Rose Garden and Leisure Valley (where cultural events were held) was even more than previous years.

Most fascinating features of Rose Festival 2016 were magnificent display of flowers in the form of rangolis, figures of animals like that of elephant, lion, dinosaur, butterfly, peacock and other figures such as mushroom, boat etc. Beautiful and inspiring themes were used by the thoughtful people like ‘tribute to war heroes’, ‘beti bachao, beti padhao’, ‘save the girl child’ etc. The event saw many types of competitions. Apart from Mr and Ms completions, a unique and exciting flower cutting and arrangement contest was also held during the Rose Festival 2016. Kite flying was yet another competition which was held during this year’s festival.

Apart from flower display, the festival also hosted numerous cultural programs. There were fun events for all age groups. Other activities that attracted people were exciting rides like merry-go-round, Columbus, merry cup, kids’ train, dragon ride, bikes and camel rides. The entire Rose Garden was filled with fun and frolic throughout the 3 day event.

For the first time ever, Chandigarh MC had put up eatables stalls within the garden premises so that people may enjoy food without leaving the Rose Garden. The food stalls also saw a huge rush throughout the 3 day festival.

However, apart from all this, cultural programmes which included star nights were the main attraction and can be called as crowd pullers. Punjabi singers Ranjit Bawa, Jazzy B and Bollywood singer Sukhwinder Singh performed live during evening hours.
