Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh has been ranked first in Chandigarh in the Swachhta Rankings-2017 of higher educational institutions. The educational institute has bagged this rank in the category of government institutions.
The Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 11, Chandigarh, earlier known as the GCG-11, has been ranked sixth in the Swachhta Rankings-2017 of higher educational institutions in the category of government institutions in India.
GCG 11 ranked 1st in Chandigarh in Swachhta Rankings 2017
GCG-11, Chandigarh that has been now renamed as The Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 11, Chandigarh, has been ranked sixth in India in the Swachhta Rankings-2017 whereas the Panjab University has bagged the seventh position in the Swachhta Rankings of higher educational institutions in the category of government institutions in India.
Here is the topper in the list
According to reports, GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology based in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, has topped the list in the Swachhta Rankings of higher educational institutions in the category of government institutions in India.
The top-ranking institutions were awarded at an award function recently. The rankings were announced after the HRD Ministry conducted the survey. The Human Resource Development Ministry awarded the winners at the award function that was recently held in New Delhi.
An elated Principal of the PGGCG-11 received the award
Dr. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 11, received the award in New Delhi. The award for the 6th position in Swachhta Rankings of higher educational institutions 2017 was given by the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.
According to the report, the college could have scored a higher rank but due to heavy rain on the day of the inspection the College secured the 6th position across all the educational institutes in India and secured the top position in Chandigarh.
Panjab University that bagged the 7th position in the list credited the award to the hard work done over a year’s time. According to the spokesperson, boards on cleanliness were put up across the campus in English Hindi as well as Punjabi language. One of the major factors that helped the University bag the 7th position, is the cleanliness in hostels as well as the student-toilet ratio. Another factor that contributed in the award is the green cover.” He said in the past one year, the PU had carried out tree plantation, a no-plastic drive and installed separate dustbins for recyclable and organic waste.
In the last one year several drives had been carried out in Panjab University to make the premises clean and green. The drives included tree plantation drive, no-plastic drive, and installation of separate dustbins for organic waste and recyclable material.
Parameters for the rankings
There were numerous parameters for the position in the rankings. These parameters were a student-toilet ratio, availability of running water, kitchen hygiene, the modernity of toilet and kitchen equipment, garbage disposal in hostels and academic buildings, campus green cover, disposal techniques, water supply systems. Besides these parameters, another parameter was whether the selected institutions had adopted any neighboring village or locality to spread awareness and activities in “Swachhta”.
