Chandigarh Has 3 Lakes & Here's All You'd Like to Know About Them

If we talk about lakes in Chandigarh then one name that comes to everyone’s mind is Sukhna Lake. What if we tell you that Chandigarh has 3 lakes. Ah, this would remind you of another lake in Chandigarh that is situated in Sector 42. But not many know about this one.

However, the fact is that there are 3 lakes in Chandigarh. Read on!

Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh

Location: Sector 1, Chandigarh.

Sukhna Lake is the most famous tourist attraction of Chandigarh. Located in Sector 1, Chandigarh Sukhna lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream which comes down from the Shivalik Hills.

Sukhna Lake has got a CITCO Cafeteria, souvenir shops, games and amusement rides for children, jogging track and of course boating. People come here for their morning / evening walk.

New Lake, Sector 42, Chandigarh

Location: Sector 42. (Near Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management).

Many people in Chandigarh don’t know about this new lake. Situated in the peaceful region of Sector 42, Chandigarh, this lake is actually called as ‘New Lake’. There’s no doubt in the fact that this new lake has become a favourite spot for students and younger generation. It is loved by photographers and nature lovers.

This lake is smaller as compared to Sukhna Lake and even has a jogging track. People often sit on stairs over here just like Sukhna Lake. We hope that Lake, Sector 42 would definitely attract more tourists in the coming future.

Dhanas Lake, Chandigarh

Location: Dhanas Village. (Near Sector 38, Chandigarh).

As we said that Chandigarh has 3 lakes, so this one is the third lake in Chandigarh. It is located near sector 38 of Chandigarh in village Dhanas. However, Dhanas lake Chandigarh cannot be compared with Sukhna Lake or New Lake, but still it is a full-fledged lake.

Dhanas Lake does not have jogging tracks or boating facilities but it has a beautiful view and peaceful surroundings as it is away from the city chaos. All the passionate bird photographers can get some good clicks as you can see birds and flowers on the other side of the lake.
