Chandigarh’s GMCH 32 To Get Its Emergency Wing Upgraded Along With 130 More Beds

The Chandigarh’s Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) situated in Sector 32 is planning a considerable expansion in the Emergency wing of the hospital by adding 130 more beds for the patients. The idea has been suggested by the Engineers of the Chandigarh administration upon the request of the hospital authorities to manage the inflow of the patients and provide them proper facilities while at the hospital getting treatment.

Not only are they planning to add beds they are also looking forward to upgrade some of the other treatment facilities in the GMCH, Chandigarh.

The Upgradation of GMCH Chandigarh

The emergency ward of the GMCH, Sector 32 Chandigarh gets to see a lot of patients every year and it somehow fails to occupy them properly at times. Less space and more patients leads to a lot of pressure amongst the staff thus, the hospital authorities have requested the Chandigarh Administration to help them out regarding the ongoing problem.

The engineers of the Administration have already investigated the whole area of the GMCH hospital and has come up with a plan accordingly. The plan is set to be discussed with top officials and once the tender will be approved the construction and upgradation process will start soon.

The Plans Of Administration

Apart from the 130 beds inclusion plan in the emergency wing of the GMCH, 32 the Chandigarh Administration is also planning some changes in the mortuary area, Doctor’s offices, Cafeteria, Medical examination area and car park areas.

More than 1.20 lac sq ft area will be required to build the extra facilities in the emergency area of the hospital as suggested by the Engineering Department of Chandigarh Administration. According to the plans:

The emergency block would be expanded to include a basement, first floor and second floor. The 130 beds would be set up in the extended area.

On the Ground floor these facilities will be provided:

  • Space for stretchers
  • Wheelchairs
  • Ambulances
  • Police post
  • Worker room
  • Waiting area
  • Medical officer room
  • Doctor rest room
  • Nurse duty room
  • Medicine store
  • A morg
  • Laboratory
  • X-ray room
  • Plaster room;
  • Operation theatre
  • ATM machines

On the First Floor that would be constructed will have:

  • A pantry
  • Medicine Store
  • Emergency equipment facilities

On the Second Floor:

  • A Staff cafeteria
  • Waiting area
  • A public cafeteria
  • A Kitchen
  • Public Rest room
  • And other amenities

Established in the year 1991, upon looking at the building of the GMCH Sector 34 hospital cum college one can estimate easily that its condition is kind of “left in the cold” these days. The GMCH College of Chandigarh is considered one of the best medical colleges of the city but as far as the hospital section is concerned the area needs a lot of improvement and catching up with the latest.
