Bike Taxis are Coming to Chandigarh | Now, Riding Baxis Might Be The New Trend

Baxis service project will start soon in Chandigarh. Bike Taxi concept is running successfully in Guru-gram, Ghaziabad, Noida and now it’s a surprise for city beautiful-Chandigarh. Residents of city can travel to their office, colleges without paying hefty amounts on cabs with the idea of baxis known as bike taxi.

Bike taxi is not a new concept as the scheme is already running successfully in some other states such as  Gujarat, Rajasthan Karnataka, Haryana West Bengal. Besides controlling,pollution will also have an additional advantage of reducing vehicular traffic pressure on the roads. Baxis an Eco-friendly means of transport.

Baxis Service to start in Chandigarh

The State Transport Authority secretary Mr. Rajiv Tewari said that Baxi taxi service is expected to  start soon. The service is expected to start within a month. He shared that the transport department is working over finalizing the policy regarding baxis , existing and new motorcycle owners will be able to get commercial permits and licences to run two-wheeler’s as pillion taxis in Chandigarh.

There are large number of people, who don’t have their own vehicle and they need to travel daily through buses or taxis. For such commuters, baxis service would be quite helpful. Bike taxi would not only save cost but time of travel as well. The fare of bike taxi travel in Chandigarh would be determined on the basis of distance and time covered.

Bike or Taxi?

The  Bike Taxi service idea has gained mixed response from residents of Chandigarh. Few people said they would prefer public bus rather than opting for bike taxi. On another side, Akshita from SD College said that travelling through baxis is much safer than cabs as it reduces chances of women harassment.

Employment opportunity for youth

Baxi service will generate employment opportunities for youth in Chandigarh. Requiring minimal investment, the scheme is expected to create a major avenue for the unemployed youth to engage in entrepreneurial business, while facilitating last-mile connectivity for commuters in areas not accessible by regular four-wheeler taxis. Every year youth will be provided with commercial LCVs, one lakh taxis and other vehicles at susidized rates by Congress under “Apni Gaddi Apna Rozgar” scheme. No collateral will be asked and the government standing guarantee would be provided. The youth will be expected to repay their loan in five years.

Tie up with Ola and Uber in Chandigarh

The government proposed to tie up with major taxi operators such as Ola and Uber to ensure the success of the bike taxi scheme. Both have shown interest in the baxis scheme & necessary notification will be released soon by the government. The motorcycle owner who want to apply for bike taxi, they need to have a permit and licence for two wheeler.

The idea of commuting through two-wheeler rather than four wheeler has shown positive response form residents of Chandigarh. Thus, Bike taxi is an interesting thing to wait for.
