Chandigarh International Airport to be Completely Shut for 3 Days

Chandigarh International Airport will remain completely shut for 3 days. 1 day in March and 2 days in the month of April 2017. This means that no airplane will take-off from the airport and no plane will land. This is being done in order to repair the runway at the airport. In the long run, this will enable smooth landing and take off of the flights at Chandigarh Airport.

Why the Closure

Earlier also, airport authorities used to close the Airport for flights after 1 pm on the first and third Sunday of every month. But now 3 days have been decided in between which the repairing work will be completed for the betterment of the functioning of the Airport.

  • Chandigarh Airport will remain closed on 19th March, 2nd April and 16th April 2017.
  • No flights will operate on these days. All the flights will be cancelled.
  • Instrument Landing System (ILS) will be put on the runway to ensure the smooth take-off and landing on the Airport.
  • It will decrease the probability of delaying of the flight in Chandigarh Airport during foggy days.

As per the direction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Airport Authorities are all set to upgrade from CAT II to CAT III instrument landing system. And after this, we may expect some more international flight to operate from the city beautiful Chandigarh. Even the new system will avoid the delay of the flights during the foggy days or bad weather in the city.

It’s really a good one that Chandigarh Airport is slowly picking up into the race and surely make it to the World Class one.
