Temperature in Chandigarh has been in news all through these winters but this time it is something bigger. Chandigarh has recorded a day temperature which is less than Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. Although, Srinagar is covered with heavy snow but still the day temperature in Chandigarh was lass than that recorded in Srinagar.
In December 2014, Chandigarh was colder than Shimla. We had published a news that time which got 2400 social media shares. Here’s the news: Chandigarh colder than Shimla, breaks 28 yr record: December 2014.
Chandigarh compared to Srinagar, Shimla, Manali & Dharamshala:
The news of Chandigarh being colder than Srinagar which had a heavy snowfall has created ripples. The maximum temperature in Chandigarh was recorded at 9.9 degrees Celsius during the day while in Srinagar, it was 11.5 degrees. Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 18 degrees, Dharamshala 14.2 degrees, Manali 14.6 degrees.
This is the first time that the temperature in Chandigarh is lower than all major tourist spots in Himachal Pardesh and even Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir.
What the MET department says:
While people in Chandigarh were shivering with cold, MET department said that icy winds will blow for a couple of days and then there would be some respite due to sunny days. However, fog will continue in Chandigarh for almost entire week.
If such cold conditions prevail in Chandigarh and the temperature in the city is lower as compared to Srinagar, Manali, Shimla etc. then the day when we might see snowfall in Chandigarh is not far away. Residents of Chandigarh are advised to wear woolens and keep themselves warm during these extreme cold conditions.
