Chandigarh’s 1st Flyover (At Tribune Chowk) Will Cost Rs. 300 Crores

We hope you all are aware about the new flyover that has to come up at Tribune Chowk in Chandigarh. It will be the first ever flyover of Chandigarh. This new flyover is to be constructed on the roundabout of Sector 29, 31, Industrial area Phase 1 and Phase 2, popularly known as Tribune Chowk. What started as an idea and a conversation by our MP Kirron Kher has finally reached the budget phase.

Estimated cost for this project would be a whooping amount of 300 crores which will be borne by Union Ministry Of Road Transport & Highways.

The Need of a Flyover in Chandigarh

We all know that Tribune Chowk is one of the most important junctions of the city. It is the first thing you encounter when you enter Chandigarh via Zirakpur coming from Ambala or Delhi. Apart from this, tribune chowk is a central place that sees a huge rush of local vehicles. Major problems related to traffic congestion are witnessed at this junction on a daily basis. This is caused due to more than 1 Lakh vehicles crossing this roundabout on any single day.

The Project

As per the sources,  the work on this particular project will start in 10 months after the approval of DPR (Detailed Project Report) which is already ready.

The final design is yet to be finalized with a common consent between National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) and Chandigarh Administration.

The Cost Involved

This project would cost Rupees 300 crores to the ministry. The costing report was made by the engineering department and would be submitted to road ministry. This cost would be including the

  • Cost of execution,
  • Construction cost
  • Transportation of the material required.
  • Labour Cost
  • Any other costs involved

The Excitement

Probably, there’s no one in Chandigarh who would not be excited about this flyover. However, many believe that this would spoil the design of the city. But being the first flyover in the city, this beautiful giant clover-leaf type flyover at Tribune Chonk will surely be an attraction as soon as it be constructed.

One thing that should not happen is traffic jams on the flyover itself. The growing pace of number of vehicles and the traffic might make us see a day where even the flyover gets a traffic jam. But as of now, people would not have to wait for those red lights to turn green anymore. Thanks to the efforts of the Government Authorities, it would surely be a great reliever for the traffic problems at Tribune Chowk, Chandigarh.
