Ram Rahim Sentenced to 10 Year Imprisonment | Here’s What CBI Court in Rohtak Said

The CBI court today pronounced the quantum of punishment in Rohtak to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Dera Sacha Sauda chief and sentenced the Dera chief to ten years of imprisonment. Unlike the last week, things were under control in the Haryana district where the proceedings took place.

Last week, soon after the special CBI court in Panchkula convicted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Dera head in a 15-year old sexual assault case on August 25, dera followers went on a rampage and played havoc in Panchkula that left more than 30 people dead in Panchkula. The dera followers not only damaged public properties they set ablaze several vehicles in the city.

Justice delayed but not denied!

In the quantum of punishment, while the CBI bench wanted maximum punishment for the rape convict dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the special CBI court gave 10-years of imprisonment to the Rapist. While the defense left no stone unturned to reduce the punishment citing, that Gurmeet Ram Rahim is a humanitarian and has been carrying out a number of social causes in the country, yet the court was firm on the decision. As it is said, ‘People who create their own drama deserve their own karma’, the dera chief finally reached his destination.  The dera Chief may have executed several social works but it can never wipe away the crimes he has done.

Why was the sentence pronounced in Rohtak? 

Due to the violence that aroused after Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s conviction by the CBI Court in Panchkula which left over 35 dead across Haryana, the Haryana Police while taking deterrent measures decided that sentencing of the jailed godman will not be executed in Panchkula. Bringing him back to the city can be perilous for the residents.

According to a high court notification, the district jail in Sunaria, Rohtak was notified by the Punjab & Haryana high court to provide suitable space for court room etc in the district jail. Furthermore, arrangements were to made by the district jail for the lawyers and parties to have an easy access to the courtroom for the final proceedings in the case titled as CBI versus Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Library turned into courtroom

The Haryana government that failed to maintain the law and order in the state following the conviction of the dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, had been ordered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to make all the essential arrangements for Jagdeep Singh, the special CBI judge, to conclude the procedure at the Rohtak district jail itself.

It was reported that the Haryana government has also been asked by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to make necessary security arrangements for safe transport by air of the judicial officer. According to reports, two staff members will be flying with the special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh.

It was reported that the Jail library in the Rohtak district jail was turned into a provisional court for the hearing of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s sentence in a 15-year-old rape case.

Justice finally arrives, Charges framed!

After numerous stay orders of higher courts, pressure from political parties, senior CBI officials, about 200 hearings spanning over a decade, a special CBI special trial court in Panchkula finally convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, in the 15-year old rape case. The dera chief was charged for raping his female followers known as ‘Sadhavi’.

Haryana all set to deal with dire situations 

It was reported that Police forces are continuously patrolling in the streets of Rohtak where Ram Rahim’s sentencing will take place. Besides Rohtak where the hearing will take place, several other cities in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi NCR and other states have been put on high alert. Section 144 has been imposed to maintain the law and order in the country and SSPs have given free hand in their respective districts for the implementation of Section 144. To strengthen the peace across the district the IG had given a free hand to its team to use force if required!

Chances of Bail for Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh

Though the offense is non-bail able according to the law of the earth Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh can apply for bail in the High court which will be on the discretion of the honorable court whether or not to grant the bail.
