Chandigarh | City Shaken With 7 Suicide & 2 Murder Cases During March 2017

March was the month of tragedy and misfortune for the people of Chandigarh as the city recorded 7 suicide cases and 2 murders. The city once known for happiness and prosperity is now in the limelight for wrong reasons.

On March 1, a 31- year old Dentist committed suicide by jumping off from the fourth floor of her residential building at Darshan Vihar in sector 68. As per the preliminary investigation, she ended her life due to depression.

On March 8, a 19-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself in his room due to peer pressure and depression. The victim was a residents of Khuda Lahora and a student of class 12th. He had twice failed in his exam and was preparing to appear in the examination for the third time.

On March 13, Varinder Singh (26) was murdered by a group of 10-12 men. The victim was a resident of Saketri village and was killed because of the rivalry between the accused and the brother of the deceased that aroused during a cricket match they played.

On March 13, a 19-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself in her PG at Sector 22, Chandigarh. The victim was from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh and was doing preparations for her Pre-Medical Entrance examination. The cause for her suicide is still not known as she did not leave any suicide note behind.

On March 19,  Seerat Kaur (35) shot her husband, Aikom Singh Dhillon (40) with a 9mm pistol at their residence in Mohali Phase-3B1. The couple was married for 12 years ago and had 2 kids. She even tried to dispose off the body by packing it in a suitcase and driving it in a BMW to a secluded area.

On March 20, a 17- year old boy committed suicide by jumping in front of a train on Kharar – Chandigarh railway track. The victim was the resident of Manauli village and was under depression when he took his life.

On March 22, a 33- years old woman committed suicide by hanging herself at her home in Sector 78, Mohali. The reason for the suicide was the trivial fight between the victim and her husband over their son’s first birthday celebrations.

On March 28, an 18- year old boy committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in sector 20, Chandigarh. The victim was a B.Sc first-year student and had left no suicide note behind. On the very same day, a 12th class girl took her life by consuming some poisonous substance when she was alone at her home in Panchkula. The reason for suicide is unknown in both the cases.
